Worship Team

Celebtating God's love and our relationship with Him through Christ

Pastor Michael provides overall leadership for the Worship Team, which is responsible for all worship services, including our Lenten worship and special worship services. There are three key groups that support COJ worship:

  • The Music Team, led by Aaron Howe and Anne Kinney includes ReJOYce, which sings and plays at all regular worship services, and the children and adult choirs and youth band, which provide special music throughout the year.
  • The Media Team is led by Daniel Maynard and supports worship through audio and visual media.
  • The Worship Support Team includes worship service coordinators, ushers, communion servers, readers, acolytes, and the Altar Guild.

If you would like to be involved in this exciting ministry, contact one of the team leaders or Pastor Michael.

Hospitality Team

Extending a loving welcome to all who visit or seek to join our fellowship

The Hospitality Team, led by Nancy Brunson, is one of the key means for sharing Christ's love with all who visit COJ. From the greeting at the front door to the coffee mug (with coffee) the Hospitality Team makes everyone feel welcome. The Hospitality Team has other important responsibilities:

  • The team follows up with everyone who visits COJ.
  • The team provides orientation several times a year for people considering membership in COJ.
  • The team helps new members get involved in ministry and small group activities.

Contact Nancy Brunson to find out how you can get more involved in sharing Christ's love.

Growth Team

Helping each other to become all that God has intended for us

Debbie Hutton leads the Growth Team at COJ, where we are growing God's family through a comprehensive Christian education program with activities for people of all ages:

  • Sunday School is the foundation for our growth ministry, with classes every Sunday for preschool and elementary age children through middle and high school youth to adults.
  • Our confirmation program helps our youth understand the good news of God's love and grounds their faith in the Bible and fellowship.
  • Vacation Bible School gives families a chance to grow together for a week of activities, lessons and worship each evening.
  • Youth programs give middle school and high school members and their friends opportunities for learning and praying together, serving others and just kicking back or having fun.

Debbie Hutton is your starting point for helping God's family to grow.

Care & Support Team

Allowing God's love to flow through us in caring for and supporting others

Sharing Christ's love and growing God's family means supporting and caring for one another. It always means praying for each other. It also means...

  • Helping each other deal with illness, injury or loss and the host of problems we may face.
  • A little note telling someone you thought of them today.
  • Just being present and listening.
  • Supporting a particular project, such as World Hunger Campaign, Storehouse West, Good Samaritan Fund, Ronald McDonald House, Albertson's Community Partners, Fair Trade Coffee and Chocolate, Joy Quilters' quilts and blankets, and recycling printer cartridges.

Our goal is that every COJ member will have a Care Contact. You can be part of this vital ministry. The Care & Support Team is lead by Gretchen Comfort. Contact her to get involved!

Fellowship Team

Providing opportunities to share our joy and experiences with Christ

We're Lutherans! It's all about the coffee! And the potlucks! And the fellowship! But it doesn't just happen (especially the clean-up doesn't just happen). The Fellowship Team helps us be joyful Lutherans, and then get ready for the next Lutheran activity, things like:

  • Coffee (OK, and other beverages) on Sunday mornings between the services.
  • Soup Suppers on Wednesdays during Lent.
  • Casual dinners on "Super Wednesdays".
  • Special fellowship opportunities throughout the year.

One recent visitor told us, You folks are having way too much fun to be Lutherans.

Neal Shotwell leads this team. Please feel free to reach out to her if you would like to get involved or just to offer thanks.

Stewardship Team

Faithfully using what God has given us to help build His kingdom

God offers us a tremendous opportunity for joy through trusting him with our time, our talents and our treasure (it's all his in the first place). The Stewardship Team, led by Paul Anderson, helps members understand the opportunities and rewards for faithful stewardship:

Giving time to one of these ministries, or using time to study, pray or serve others increases our awareness of God's love and his grace.
  • Using our talents and experiences helping others grow in their faith, or keeping our facilities in tip-top shape, or making "joyful noises" to the Lord in worship, all help build God's kingdom.
  • Trusting God with our finances (our treasure) increases our capacity to share Christ's love and grow God's family.

Contact Paul Anderson for more information about stewardship at Community of Joy.

Communications Team

Ensuring access to the information that encourages involvement

Effective communications is central to our ministry and programs. It includes telling others the great news of God's love and grace through Jesus Christ - through our worship and individual testimony. It includes making sure everyone knows about the many and exciting opportunities to share Christ's love and grow God's family at Community of Joy.

  • Our regular monthly newsletter provides the new about our ministry and opportunities.
  • Our weekly updates (in the worship bulletin) keep folks up to date.
  • Our website gives people a first look as well as information about our beliefs and our ministry.
  • Congregational meetings bring people face to face on critical information and decisions.

Earlene Shroyer coordinates the Communications Team to make sure our communications are as effective as possible. If you would like to be involved in our communications programs she is your contact.

Volunteer & Leadership Development Team

Supporting the growth of volunteers and leaders

"Thank you." Volunteers need to hear it and leaders need to say it... often. Rich Nelson leads the Volunteer and Leadership Development Team to ensure that our leaders and volunteers have the support and opportunities they need to be effective in sharing Christ's love and growing God's family.
This includes things like:

  • Developing and maintaining a data base of volunteers and ministry opportunities.
  • Coordinating training and leadership development opportunities.
  • Supporting team leaders in recruiting, training, supporting and thanking volunteers.

If you want more information or want to become involved, contact Rich Nelson.

Church Council

Please feel free to reach out to one of our council members if they can be of any assistance to you!

Community of Joy Lutheran Church is a diverse body of people who are united by our faith in Jesus Christ. We work together to provide meaningful worship experiences, educational opportunities for all ages, and both local and global expressions of our faith.

The Congregation Council of COJ is made up of 6 elected members. Officers and Council members are elected at the November Annual Meeting and are given the responsibility for the oversight and governance of the mission and ministry of COJ.
